The Price Of Wanting More: Why Ambition Means Standing Out
Being exceptional means exactly what it says: being an exception.
Chasing goals and achieving them is great. You become wealthier, more fulfilled, fitter, happier, and, overall, a better version of yourself. But there’s a price to pay.
When you commit to chasing your dreams, you aggravate a lot of people. You ruffle the feathers of the average. But you can’t chase a dream or achieve something special and simultaneously remain in the shadows: it just can’t happen.
So, you better get used to it.
This means getting used to being on the outside, it means accepting being the exception, it means embracing it.
A lot of people cannot get their heads around certain behaviours. They’ll question someone who orders a glass of water during a meal to their left, whilst completely ignoring the person drinking, vaping and scrolling TikTok to their right.
The bar has been set so low that even choosing basic needs over pleasure stands out.
Don’t believe me? Go to your next social gathering without drinking and just watch (mostly targeted at the UK readers).
People can’t even eat a chicken salad without “Being on a diet”.
So you better strap in, because anything remotely positive is going to stand out, and if you’re not ready to stand out, you’ll have to settle for average.
When you start making better choices, it simply reflects and shines a light on everyone else's poor ones, which subsequently leads to attention.
Like crabs in a bucket, if they can’t bring themselves to your level, they’ll try to drag you back down to theirs.
But ignore it. You’re in your own lane now, and until you find others like you, it’s simply a case of keeping your head down and continuing upward until you find them.
You’re not alone. Find the others.
But until then, get ready to stand out; it’s simply the price of choosing more.
