There's Nothing Romantic About Undiscovered Potential
Hypotheticals are exciting, they’re unknown outcomes with infinite possibilities.
But when it comes to your own potential, there’s nothing sexy or exciting about wondering what you could or couldn’t do.
And yet, a lot of people get stuck in this phase of constantly fantasising about who they could become, without ever exploring an inch of it.
Goals are romantic, reality is frightening. And I think this is why so many people never take the first step, they’re scared of finding out that they’re not all that.
But without finding out, without ever giving it a go, it stays as a dream, as a wish, and there’s nothing more tragic than abandoning your own potential.
This may seem dramatic, and speaking about potential in this way may come across as grandiose, but let’s see this for what it truly is:
When I say potential, it goes beyond the cliché, it’s what kind of parent you’re going to be, the kind of life that your children get to live, the quality of healthcare you have access to, the levels of mental well-being and happiness you're able to achieve, and whether or not you spend your latter years regretting every decision you were too frightened to make.
To be cliché once more: you have one life, and you can either spend it conforming and fitting in or you can spend it truly finding out what you’re made of.
We’re constrained by our environment, by mantras that have been repeated to us over and over again, by us “not having rich parents”, or any other self-limiting belief of your choice.
We’re stopped by our own limitations, limitations that are created by our perceptions, perceptions that are created by false narratives.
Stop dreaming and stop wondering. There’s nothing romantic about undiscovered potential, so embrace failure, seek adventure, and find out what you can do.
