Everything You Do Has Purpose - Why Every Action Matters

Everything You Do Has Purpose - Why Every Action Matters

Purpose is mostly associated with a single pursuit. It’s finding that ONE thing that you love, and then chasing it for the rest of your days. But what about everything else?

If your purpose is to become the greatest pickleball player of all time, that’s great, but that’s not why you watch Anime, or spend time with friends, or call to check up on your grandmother. So why do you?

Every single thing we decide to do, no matter how small, has a purpose of its own. And the purpose behind these actions is just as important, if not more important than what the actions are.

This is evident through the fact that two people could do the very same thing for very different reasons.

Two people could donate money to charity: one does it because they genuinely care about the cause, and the other does so to impress someone they find attractive.

Same action, different purpose. So, clearly, why we do things matter more than what we do.

So why do you do the things you do?

Do you eat for health and performance, or for pleasure?

Do you sleep in for extra recovery, or for comfort?

Do you avoid hard conversations because they’re truly unnecessary, or for ease?

Do you avoid risks because you’re smart enough to see the odds, or from fear?

These matter because whether you realise it consciously or not, the purpose behind every seemingly insignificant action is noted, remembered, and later used as a gauge to determine how you see yourself.

What do you think determines the magnitude of your goals? Is it the money that each one makes? Is it the chances of success? Is it what other people are doing?

No, it’s what you believe you’re capable of, which is determined by how you see yourself, which is determined by everything you’ve done before, and everything you’ve done before had reasons behind it.

Action - What you did

Purpose - Why you did it

Identity - What does repeatedly choosing that purpose reveal about me?

Why This Matters - What trajectory does that identity set for your future?

If you want to change who you are and what you believe you’re capable of, then stop living on autopilot and start becoming conscious of the reasons behind your actions. Because the reason behind every action, no matter the size, tells a story of who you are and who you become.

It’s not about being perfect: it’s about being consistent.

It’s respecting yourself enough to take care of your identity.

It’s understanding that who you are is not random, it’s shaped by everything you do, and being conscious of what shapes you is essential.
